what The Problem We All Live With is for me.

She is walking excitedly. They are marching around her hurriedly. She’s going somewhere, while they, uniformly swinging back and forth, are escorting her. She looks ahead; whereas they, as we are not able to see, we do not know.

This was purposely painted and done to show a 6-year old, headed to where she will learn a lot, while being escorted all around. When it first came out, it was not received well by those who found themselves guilty with what it was trying to point out and reacted to it negatively.

As we can see, he wanted to focus with her, striding among those who are rigidly walking around her. She may seem to be really looking forward to go to somewhere, because she’s not really in the center, but almost reaching those in front of her.

We can also see a “NIGGER” that was written, which obviously refers to her. There is also something freshly squashed, which may appear as if someone just threw that on them. Maybe it was intentionally thrown to the NIGGER written, which may show that the one who threw it really do hate them.

While looking at it, one can already speculate about what it is really trying to say. Those who are walking, how they are moving, where they are going, and those that we see are written, give to us almost explicitly what they mean. What she’s holding also tells us where they are headed to. Almost everything is given to us, we just have to interpret and identify.

Although it may appear as if this was just done plainly and simply, there is more to it than what is shown. He just leaves to us how we would take and understand it. And this, makes me like it even more.
